Raiders Fall on Day Two at Battle at the Beach

Colgate Softball Dropped Both Games on Saturday

CONWAY, S.C. – On their second day at the Battle at the Beach, Colgate Softball fell to East Carolina and Coastal Carolina despite hard-fought efforts and close scores. The Raiders dropped a 3-1 contest to the Pirates and a 4-1 game to the Chants to end the day's doubleheader.

GAME 1 | East Carolina 3, Colgate 1

Colgate got on the board first after a sacrificial RBI from Rachel Carney, who popped out to right field and scored fellow senior Taylor Ludwick. Unfortunately for the Raiders, this would be their only run of the game, as they would be shut out for the next five innings.

Alexa Acker held the Pirates scoreless for the first three innings before giving up a one-run double in the fourth to tie the game at one. An inning later, ECU took the definitive lead after pushing two more runs across the plate. These runs would be the final two scored for the game, as the Pirates would walk away with a 3-1 victory.

GAME 2 | Coastal Carolina 4, Colgate 1

The Raiders found themselves in a similar position as the first game of the doubleheader, as Colgate started strong defensively, not allowing a run in the first two innings. The middle innings were a struggle for the Raiders as senior Bailey Misken gave up three runs in the third off a pair of hits.

Colgate responded quickly in the following inning, as Bailey Burns scored an unearned run off a passed ball to make the score 3-1. Unfortunately, Burns would be the only one to cross home plate for the Raiders in the nightcap.

The following half inning would see the Chants secure an insurance run that would end the scoring for both teams. Colgate would see a few more opportunities with runners in scoring position throughout the rest of the game but couldn't capitalize off any, as they would fall in their second game of the day 4-1.
