Raiders Fall to Hoyas

Alexa Brodie Leads Colgate With 10 Points on Five-of-Seven Shooting

HAMILTON – The Colgate Women's Basketball team jumped out to an early lead on Georgetown Tuesday night at Cotterell Court, but the Hoyas came back to top the Raiders by a 61-40 count.

"We've been really talking about having consistency in the way we start, and I thought we were ready. You have to show up, make plays, and execute, and I thought we were doing that on both ends of the floor but we just weren't able to sustain. Hats off to Georgetown for their resiliency and their toughness," said head coach Ganiyat Adeduntan

Colgate rode an 8-0 run in the early going to race out to a 10-4 lead on its Big East foe, but the Hoyas turned the tide to take a one-point lead after the first quarter of play. The Raiders retook the lead just over a minute into the second quarter on Alexa Brodie's made jumper, but Georgetown controlled play to close the half and had a 38-23 lead at the break.

Tiasia McMillan took control of the game in the third quarter. She shot 4-for-6 from the field in the third and totaled 10 points, which included a make from behind the three-point arc with 3:33 to play to cut the margin down to six. She added an assist on a three-pointer from Morgan McMahon, who also had the hot hand with five points in the third quarter.

The deficit got down to 13 just a few minutes into the third quarter, which was as close as the hosts got thanks to a 9-0 Hoya run in the quarter that all but sealed the game. Colgate's defense silenced the visitors to just 10 points in the fourth quarter, but the Raiders were unable to cut into the margin.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Alexa Brodie had a sharp evening shooting the ball, as she shot 5-for-7 from the field and scored a team-high 10 points.

Madison Schiller had her third consecutive game with at least five rebounds and her fourth such game in her last five outings to top the team in boards on the night. The effort bumper her season average to 3.9 rebounds per game, which only sits behind McMillan and Sophia Diehl. Schiller's four assists also led the team, and she has averaged four assists per game in her last four outings.

Chidinma Okafor had a strong game defensively, with a pair of blocks to mark a new season-high.
