Box Score HAMILTON – The Colgate Women's Basketball team cruised past Keuka by a 97-22 final Wednesday night at Cotterell Court. The 75-point victory marks the largest margin of victory in program history.
"This was an opportunity for us to come out and try to get back to us," head coach
Ganiyat Adeduntan. "We played two tough opponents in the last two games and we wanted to be locked in for 40 minutes and be tough defensively."
A bevy of career-highs highlighted the scoresheet for the Raiders, including new single game scoring totals from
Chidinma Okafor (14) and
Ella Meabon (13) to help Colgate run past the Wolves. Okafor also set a new career mark for rebounds with seven while
Abbey Ferguson ripped down seven boards, also a new career high.
Morgan McMahon reached a personal-best with six assists and
Madison Schiller also dished out half a dozen helpers to reach a new season-high.
The hosts controlled the game early, as Meabon struck for back-to-back layups 40 seconds apart in the opening four minutes to give the Raiders a 12-3 lead. That marked the last time Keuka's deficit was in single digits, as Colgate closed the first quarter on a 9-0 run to stretch its lead to 24.
Tiasia McMillan had eight points in the quarter to kickstart the offensive attack.
Colgate added to its run to begin the second quarter and ultimately hit the halftime break with a 50-9 lead, the lowest halftime opponent point total allowed in Colgate history.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Three-point shooting continued to be a positive for the Raiders, as they went 5-for-15 on the evening, including a season-high three makes from deep for McMahon.
Christina Midgette turned in one of her best collegiate performances in the win. She set a new season-highs in points (6) and had new career-highs five steals and five assists.
The 97 team points was the most for Colgate since it scored 100 in a win over Army on Jan. 5, 2020.
Colgate turned in its best performance of the season from the free throw line with a 90.9% success rate on 10-for-11 shooting. McMahon (3-for-3), Meabon (2-for-2) and
Sophia Diehl (1-for-1) all had perfect nights from the charity stripe.
