No. 7 Bobcats Rally Past Raiders

Quinnipiac Scores Four Unanswered to Defeat Colgate 7-4

HAMDEN, Conn. — Colgate and No. 7 Quinnipiac combined for 11 goals, but the Bobcats finished with the upper hand, picking up a 7-4 victory Saturday evening after scoring four unanswered goals to pull away.

Ryan Sullivan led the way for the Raiders, tallying three points with two goals and one assist. It marks the first multi-point game of the first-year's career.

"We deserved so much better tonight but for various reasons we didn't achieve. We will continue to focus on our process and results will come," said head coach Mike Harder.

Quinnipiac jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the opening period, scoring its first goal 45 seconds into the game.

The teams netted a combined five goals in the second stanza. The Raiders scored a couple of quick ones to erase a two-goal deficit and tie the game at 2-2. Just over three and a half minutes in, Jake Schneider passed to Tommy Bergsland, who ripped one off the post, but Sullivan put the rebound home to make it 2-1.

Fellow first-year Niko Rexine found the back of the net less than two minutes later to knot the score up at 2-2. A failed clear attempt by the Bobcats landed at the stick of Daniel Panetta, who played it across ice to Rexine for a one-timer he slammed home.

The Bobcats responded immediately with a Colin Graf power play goal 28 seconds after Colgate's tally.

Ryan McGuire scored his fourth goal of the weekend at the 12:04 mark of the middle frame when he put one in on a power play. Sullivan passed to Nick Anderson, who fired a shot that McGuire redirected out in front to make it 3-3.

Quinnipiac once again came back with an answer when Jacob Quillan found the back of the net 16 seconds later, giving his team a 3-2 advantage. His goal started a streak of four-straight for QU, including three more in the third period, pushing its lead to 7-3.

Sullivan halted the scoring run with his second of the night, a shorthanded goal, with just under five minutes left. He stole the puck away from a QU player, skated in, and slotted a shot past the Bobcats' goalie.

Carter Gylander stopped a season-high 38 shots in goal. He made 16 stops in the first, the senior's most saves in a period this season, then tallied 11 in both the second and the third.

UP NEXT
The Raiders return home for a post-Thanksgiving non-conference series against Niagara next weekend. Coalgate will take on the Purple Eagles at 7 p.m. on Friday and Saturday.

Colgate athletics is once again holding a canned food drive promotion Nov. 16-29. For all athletics home events during that time frame, fans who bring at least two canned food items will receive a free ticket to that day's game.
