HAMILTON — Colgate fell 3-2 in overtime to Dartmouth Saturday evening at the Class of 1965 Arena.
The Big Green ended it three and a half minutes into the extra period when Nikita Nikora buried one off assists from CJ Foley and Luke Haymes. The Raiders had a couple good opportunities of their own in overtime, like a breakaway chance by
Ross Mitton, but his shot got saved.
Ryan McGuire scored a shorthanded goal at the 10:46 mark of the second to tie the game up at 1-1. The junior intercepted a pass and took it down the ice before slotting a shot past the Big Green's goalie.
In the third, Cooper Flinton found the back of the net for the second time to give Dartmouth the lead.
Jake Schneider responded with his second goal in as many games to knot it back up at 2-2.
Tommy Bergsland picked up an assist on the play. Dartmouth got the game's first tally just over five and a half minutes in, courtesy of Flinton.
The Raiders could not capitalize on a few other chances throughout the game, including four power plays, with one in the first, two in the second, and one in the third.
Ben Raymond got awarded a penalty shot in the middle frame, but his attempt got saved by the goalie, allowing Dartmouth to hold on to a 1-0 lead. Colgate outshot the Big Green 16-9 in the second and finished with a 38-33 advantage in the contest.
Carter Gylander recorded 30 saves in net after stopping 11 in the first period.
