WORCESTER, Mass. — Holy Cross notched three quick goals in the second quarter en route to a 4-0 victory Friday afternoon.
The Crusaders took advantage of a Raiders' yellow card in the second quarter, scoring three times in less than three minutes on the player advantage. With just over six minutes left, Holy Cross got awarded a penalty stroke, which Hayley Davis converted to make it 1-0.
Maguire Sturgis found the back of the cage 38 seconds later to double the Holy Cross lead. Coley Leo scored a minute and 22 seconds after to make it 3-0.
The Raiders had two penalty corners in the final 15 seconds of the second, but they could not capitalize.
Colgate responded well in the third, outshooting Holy Cross 5-1.
Aaliyah Linfoot and
Lily Schoonmaker both fired shots that got stopped by the goalie at the start of the quarter.
The Raiders had two near chances 10 seconds apart with just under six minutes left.
Ahria Dhillon had a shot get stopped on a defensive save, and
Hannah Marcotrigiano had a follow-up one saved by the keeper.
Lauren Widdowson then ripped one from a corner with six and a half minutes left that also got stopped.
Colgate continued to attack in the fourth, drawing four penalty corners. The Raiders had back-to-back corners with nine minutes left and got a shot off following both but could not find the back of the cage.
The first quarter saw no goals for either side. Colgate had three shots in the first, including one from
Bronwen Rees-Wiedemann, but she got denied by the goalie.
First-year
Hayley Campbell made her first career start in goal. She logged 11 stops in the first half, with six saves in the opening quarter and five in the second. She logged five more in the fourth for 16 total, the most by a Colgate goalie this season.
