Rackets Were Flying In West Point

Raiders Continue To Improve Throughout Fall Season

WEST POINT, N.Y. – The Raiders hit the road this past weekend for a three day invitational held by Army. Jordan Ben-Shmuel earned the biggest win of her career in a matchup against Army's senior captain. 

The weekend format consisted of five flights on a first match consolation in the singles matches, each draw started out with a round of 32. 

The doubles format involved two draws, starting with a round of 64. 

"Highlights of the weekend were Natalie Fuller winning two marathon superbreakers, Emme Levenson winning the backdraw in her flight, and Atallah getting to finals in her flight." said Head Coach Bobby Pennington 

WOMEN'S OPEN SINGLES

Flight A
Addie Eklund dropped her opening draw against a strong opponent, falling by a score of 6-0, 6-3. 

Eklund moved into the consolation division, dropping the match 8-2.

Flight B
Emme Levenson battled it out but eventually dropped her opening draw by a score of 6-4,6-4.

Levenson moved into the consolation division, turning her luck around winning 8-6 in the C-Quarterfinals, 8-5 in C-Semifinals, and sealing it off with a 8-4 win in the C-Finals. 
 

Flight C
Ben-Shmuel found herself in a tough matchup against a highly competitive player, dropping back-to-back losses 6-1, 6-1. 

After Ben-Shmuel dropped a tough matchup, she moved into the consolation division, winning her first match 8-7 in the C-R16-Q before eventually falling 8-4 in the C-Quarterfinals. 

Amelia Galin had a back-in-forth matchup against a strong player, winning her first match 0-6 before eventually falling 6-4, 10-3. 

Galin battled it out in the Consolation division, but fell in the C-Quarterfinals by a score of 8-7.
 

Flight D
Emily Untermeyer found success in her first matchup, winning 6-3,6-2 before falling in the round of 16 by a score of 6-0,6-0.

Natalie Fuller showed out in her first match in the opening stages of singles play, winning by a score of 6-3, 7-6, and 13-11. Fuller battled it out in the round of 16 but fell by a score of 6-0, 6-3. 

Fuller won her first two rounds in superbreakers, defeating Uconn and Army.

Flight E
Katerina Atallah received a bye in the round of 32, as she moved into the round of 16 she caught fire, cruising by her competition with a score of 6-0,6-3. 

Atallah continued her success, winning her quarterfinals battle with ease by a score of 6-4,6-1. Moving into the semi-finals she'd win again, this time with a score of 6-2, 7-6. Atallah battled it out to the very end but eventually fell by a score of 6-4, 1-6, 10-7 in the finals of her draw. 

Sasha Herman also received a bye into the round of 16, winning that battle with a score of 7-5,7-5. Herman matched up well in the quarterfinals but fell by a score of 7-5,6-1. 
 

WOMEN'S OPEN DOUBLE

Flight A 

The duo of Eklund and Untermeyer battled it out in the round of 64 but fell by a score of 6-2. 

Ben-Shmuel and Galin also duked it out in the round of 64, keeping it close throughout the entire match but fell 6-3.

Flight B
Atallah and Levenson received a bye in the round of 64, falling in the round of 32 by a score of 6-2. 

Fuller and Herman found success in the round of 32, winning 6-4 but eventually fell in the round of 16 by a score of 6-2.

"Wow that was in an incomprehensibly long weekend with a ton of tennis against 20 of the best teams in the region.

"We started slow Friday but did an absolute 180 Saturday and Sunday finishing the last two days a combined 9 and 7, with many of those wins against league opponents Army, Bucknell,  and Lehigh.

"This may be my deepest team 1 thru 8 in my 17 years."
