ANNAPOLIS, Md. – Colgate's first league draw came in tough fashion, as Navy scored the tying goal on a penalty kick in the 71st minute, and the two teams battled to a 1-1 tie Saturday afternoon.
A foul inside the box led to a penalty kick for Navy's David Jackson, who capitalized with the equalizer in the 71st minute. Colgate held better possession with four of the final five shots down the stretch, including a shot on frame by
Ryan Leask in the 77th minute, but neither side found the game-winner in regulation time.
Shots finished 9-7 in favor of the Raiders, including a 3-1 advantage in shots on goal. Colgate had six corner kicks to Navy's three and fouls were 16-15 in the back-and-forth affair.
The first shot of the game found the back of the net and it came off the boot of
Antonio Ducrot in the 17th minute.
Aidan Davock settled a throw-in for
Cason Stafford in the center of the box and his redirection led to a high right-footed blast into the upper 90 for Ducrot.
Colgate's defense kept
Andrew Cooke unscathed, as the Raiders held Holy Cross without a shot on frame. The remaining first-half possession saw action on both ends but neither side gained an advantage. There were six fouls and two shots aside through 45 minutes, but the only shot on target was Ducrot's tally and Colgate held a 1-0 lead at the intermission.
Nick Steed forced the first save of the afternoon in the 59th minute. The two teams traded possessions before Navy's late equalizer led to the 1-1 draw.

Head Coach Erik Ronning
"We played very well on both sides of the ball and were unfortunate not to get more out of the game. Navy is a quality team and very tough on their home field. We will take the point and move forward to Holy Cross."
