HAMILTON— The Colgate women's soccer team gave up a late-game goal to Loyola as the Raiders fell 1-0 in their Patriot League opener.
With 1:15 remaining in the game, Chloe Kuminkoski played a cross into the box that Baylee DeSmit got her head on and put into the lower left corner of the goal.
The Raiders had their first corner kick of the game ten minutes into the first.
Lyna Schaffer fired a shot that got saved by the Greyhounds keeper.
Colgate nearly scored after recording a pair of shots in the 14th minute.
Sara Anelli dribbled into the box and ripped a shot that got saved. The ball landed right in front of the goal for
Cara Schmidlein but she also got denied by the goalkeeper.
Grace Poncsak was tested early as just 30 seconds in the Greyhounds ripped a shot that Poncsak saved on a diving attempt. In the 44
th minute, Ponscsak made a diving stop on a shot from close range. The senior made seven saves in the first half before
Emma Hickey came in for the final 45 minutes.
The Raiders fire a trio of shots in the first 20 minutes of the second, but could not convert on any of them. In the 56th minute,
Anna Keeling collected a through ball in the box and fired a shot that got stopped by the goalie.
Colgate was awarded a free kick from just outside the box in the 77
th minute, but Loyola's wall of defenders blocked the shot.
Colgate tallied a total of 12 shots in the game, including seven on goal.
