HAMILTON — Rachel Alderfer scored her first goal of the season, but it was not enough as Colgate fell 2-1 to Yale at Tyler's Field on Friday evening.
Alderfer scored with just under five minutes remaining in the third off a penalty corner.
Dani Palmer set the corner for
Amanda Allen who played the ball in toward the goal. Alderfer got her stick on it and redirected it into the cage to tie the game at 1-1.
The Bulldogs also scored their first goal in the third quarter. Seven minutes in, Theodora Dillman fired a shot that deflected off
Anna Unger's pad and bounced in the air to Julia Freedman who batted it down into the goal to put the Bulldogs ahead 1-0.
Lena Ansari netted the game-winner for Yale four minutes into the fourth. Dillman fired a low rolling shot that Ansari redirected into the back of the cage to secure the 2-1 win.
Unger had a solid game in goal, making nine saves including five in the first half. She denied the Bulldogs on two-straight penalty corners including a pair of big saves on one of them.
Ella Murphy also made a clutch defensive save for the Raiders in the third, preventing a Bulldogs goal at the last second.
In the first quarter,
Aaliyah Linfoot had an opportunity to put Colgate ahead early when she fired a shot just 30 seconds in that got saved by Yale's goalkeeper.
The Raiders had back-to-back penalty corners in the third.
Ahria Dhillon had a scoring chance on one, but her shot got blocked. Murphy also recorded a shot in the fourth quarter that got blocked.
Colgate logged four shots, including two on goal in the game. The Raiders also had three penalty corners.
