PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Men's Soccer hit the road for a non-conference matchup against No.16 Providence College, defeating the Friars by a score of 3-2 on Thursday afternoon.
The Friars got on the board early, when Nick Benjamin headed one off a free kick from Armaan Wilson in the 20th minute. The Raiders went to the bench early as Head Coach
Erik Ronning tapped junior
Ryan Leask to go in for
Lucas Rodriguez.
After being subbed in,
Max Edelstein found the back of the net at the 32nd minute mark off a cross from
Jacob Blackwin. Colgate and Providence continued to play tied one apiece.
The Friars moved ahead in the 66th minute, as Thomas Tulgar put one past
Andrew Cooke's outstretched glove. Colgate looked to bounce back making a handful of substitutions to change the pace of play.
In the 75th minute,
Timmy Donovan found the back of the net from way downtown, knocking one past the Providence goaltender from 30 yards back. Donovan's goal tied the game at 2-2.
Providence found a chance in the 78th minute, pacing its way down the pitch, but the Raiders' defense stood strong, forcing a shot wide of the net.
Colgate bounced back, after a goal from
Antonio Ducrot in the 80th minute to push the Raiders ahead by a score of 3-2.
The Raiders stayed hot, defending any chance the Friars had at tying it up, and walked away by a score of 3-2.
