Colgate Falls to Army in Doubleheader

Raiders locked in as No. 4 seed for Patriot League Tournament

HAMILTON, N.Y. – Colgate fell victim to a pitchers' duel and a slugfest, dropping both ends of Saturday's Senior Day doubleheader to Army, 2-1 and 12-8.

With the defeats, the Raiders are now locked in as the No. 4 seed for next week's Patriot League tournament. They will face top-seeded Boston University in the first round Thursday.

Morgan Farrah had a strong day offensively, finishing 4-for-8 with an RBI in the two games combined. Quinn Livesay and Taylor Ludwick each had multi-hit days at the plate.

Game 1 | Army 2, Colgate 1

Army struck first in the top of the second. A perfectly placed single between first and second base preceded Kayla Edwards' soft one-hopper to first base that scored a runner from third. A wild pitch brought home another run and Army built an early 2-0 lead.

After coming up empty with runners in scoring position in each of the first two innings, Colgate came through in the bottom of the third. Rebecca Johnson worked a leadoff walk and eventually came around to score on a fielder's choice by Steph Jacoby to cut the deficit in half, 2-1.

Both pitchers settled in through the middle innings, allowing just one hit aside during the quiet fourth and fifth frames. Bailey Misken tallied her sixth strikeout in a scoreless top of the sixth to strand a Black Knight in scoring position and maintain the one-run deficit.

Kaitlyn Borruso popped a pinch-hit two-out single up the middle in the bottom of the seventh but a lineout capped the game with the Black Knights holding on for the 2-1 final.

Ludwick, Livesay, and Borruso had Colgate's hits in the game. Misken shouldered the loss despite allowing just two runs on seven hits with six strikeouts in seven innings.

Game 2 | Army 12, Colgate 8

Army's Game 1 starting pitcher Jolie Duong provided early run support in Game 2. With a runner on third, Duong lofted a sacrifice fly to center to bring home the first run of the game.

The Black Knights scored in each of the first four innings, including a four-spot in the top of the second capped off by a two-run homer by Edwards. A three-run home run by Kaci Donaldson extended the Black Knights' lead to 9-1 after three-and-a-half innings.

Colgate used a two-out rally to score three runs in the bottom of the fourth, highlighted by an RBI knock to right-center from Farrah. A couple of defensive miscues aided the inning and the Raiders closed the gap to 9-4 through four innings.

Army stretched the margin to 12-4 but Colgate didn't go down without a fight and nearly brought the tying run to the plate in a four-run bottom of the seventh. Jacoby drilled a two-run double to make it 12-8, but an infield popout completed the doubleheader sweep for the Black Knighs.
