Colgate Golf Presents 2021-22 Team Awards

Raiders Reflect on Historic Season, Look Ahead to 2022-23

HAMILTON – Colgate Men's Golf Head Coach Keith Tyburski announced team awards for the 2021-22 season and named captains for the upcoming year. The Raiders were also recognized during the university's Convocation Awards last weekend at the Memorial Chapel.

Colgate broke multiple records during its historic season. The team set new program-low 18-hole, 36-hole and 54-hole team totals in 2021, and their single-season scoring average of +9.79 was the lowest single-season team scoring average in program history.

On the strength of six top five finishes, the Raiders registered seven rounds of par or better this season, which broke the previous season-high of two. As a team, Colgate posted 385 birdies, besting the previous season-high of 278.

The success was warranted when Tyburski was named the Patriot League Golf Coach of the Year for the first time in his career at the conclusion of the conference championship. The Raiders placed fourth at this year's tournament.

Reflecting on the memorable 2021-22 season, Curran Gimeson was recognized as the team's graduating senior. Looking ahead to the upcoming season, Akhil Giri, Jack Maguire, and Mark Gertsen were named team captains for 2022-23.

Colgate Golf was well represented during this year's Convocation Awards ceremony. The Raiders won the Team Academic Excellence Award, and Michael Hanratty earned the Dana A. Scholar award and was named a Golden Fellow.

Most Improved Player – Jack Maguire

Maguire played in a career-high nine tournaments and 21 rounds this season. His 75.90 scoring average improved by nearly three strokes (78.40) from last season. Maguire captured his best finish at the Wildcat Spring Invitational, tying for eighth with a season-low 145 two-round total.

Leadership Award – Akhil Giri

Akhil Giri was recognized for his leadership on and off the course this season. Giri competed in eight tournaments and posted a 76.39 scoring average, right in line with his career 76.37 mark. The junior came away with a season-best fifth place finish (71-70=141) at the Duel at Bartlett.

Most Valuable Player – Dugan McCabe

Dugan McCabe rewrote the record book this season. He had the lowest single-season scoring average (72.86) and set program records in single-season rounds of par or better (12) and single-season birdies (88). McCabe captured two individual titles, including medalist honors at the Alex Lagowitz Memorial – Colgate's first winner of its home tournament since 2014.
