Three Boats Medal for Raiders at NYS Collegiate Championship

Colgate's V8 and 2V8 Take Bronze; V4 Earns Silver

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. — The Colgate women's rowing team had a successful day of racing with three boats earning medals at the New York State Collegiate Rowing Championship on Saturday.

The Raiders' varsity eight placed second in their heat with a time of 7:04.82, defeating boats from Canisius, Union, and Nazareth. Colgate then shaved off nearly six seconds in the Grand Final coming in at 6:58.99, good for third place.

In the 2V8 race, Colgate recorded a time of 7:24.44 in its heat placing second behind Marist. The Raiders then cut four seconds in the Grand Final, crossing the finish line in third place at 7:20.00. The boat finished 19 seconds ahead of the next one from the University of Rochester.

Colgate's varsity four placed second in its heat posting a time of 7:53.53. The Raiders finished just two seconds behind the first place boat from Marist. In the Grand Final, Colgate came in second with a time of 8:09.26, finishing ahead of Marist, Ithaca, Iona, and Vassar.

The Raiders' second varsity four placed fourth in their heat with a time of 9:46.29 but then ended up having to scratch.

"Today was a good day for the team! All boats made good improvements from last week's race and to be able to come home with medals in all events is a big accomplishment for us. We will take this momentum with us as we prepare for our final two races."

UP NEXT
The Raiders compete at the Women's Eastern Sprints in Worcester, Mass. next Sunday. It will be Colgate's final tune-up before the Patriot League Championships on May 13.
