Softball Drops First Two to Boston U

Series Finale Sunday at Noon

HAMILTON, N.Y. – Colgate's bats were held in check and Boston University took both ends of Saturday's doubleheader, 9-1 and 16-3, at the Eaton Street Field Softball Complex.

Steph Jacoby belted her team-leading fifth home run of the season in the nightcap. Kara Fusco, Rebecca Johnson, Meaghan Houk and Jillian Herbst each registered one hit on the day.

Game 1 | Boston University 9, Colgate 1

Bailey Misken stranded the bases loaded in each of the first three innings. A pair of strikeouts ended the first and third, and Jacoby made a lunging grab in the right-center gap to cap the second. Misken had four strikeouts through the first three scoreless innings.

Fusco gave the Raiders their first hit of the game and it was a big one in the fifth. Her double to the right-center gap advanced Rachel Carney to third, and Carney raced home on a sacrifice fly to center field by Adrienne Nardone to give Colgate a 1-0 lead.

Boston U countered in the top of the fifth with consecutive two-out RBI knocks. Caitlyn Coker's double to center field gave the Terriers a 3-1 advantage through five innings. The Terriers added two more in the top of the sixth and four in the seventh to take the 9-1 final.

Misken shouldered the loss in the circle, scattering 11 hits and three unearned runs over 4 2/3 innings. She struck out six and stranded the bases loaded in three of her four-plus innings of work.

Game 2 | Boston University 16, Colgate 3

Both teams used the long ball to get things going early in Game 2. Emily Gant put the Terriers on the board with a grand slam in the top of the first, and Jacoby responded with a two-run homer to straightaway center in the home half of the inning.

The Terriers stretched their lead with four runs on two hits in the top of the second. Houk opened the bottom of the second with an infield single and later came around to score on an RBI single up the middle by Johnson to make it 8-3 after two innings.

Boston U scored in every inning with two more runs in the third, a run in the fourth, and five in the fifth. The Terriers capped it off with their second grand slam of the game to make it 16-3 and that proved to be the final.
