Colgate Falls to #20 BU

Team drops first Patriot League game of the season

Box Score
HAMILTON – Colgate faced a tough task following a two-week layoff with 20th ranked Boston University on Crown Field at Andy Kerr Stadium and the Terriers lived up to their billing with an 18-6 win in the first Patriot League contest of the season for each team.

The Terriers jumped ahead early on two goals in the game's first 2:52 before Brian Minicus found net with the first of this three goals of the day. Three more goals by BU pushed the lead to 5-1 before MInicus answered again on a feed from Thomas Colucci.  A goal with 1:25 left in the opening period gave BU a 6-2 first quarter advantage.

The lead swelled to 8-2 in the second quarter before Minicus completed his third hat trick in four games this season. The Terriers would net the final two markers of the quarter for a 10-3 halftime advantage.

Following a BU goal to open the third, Colgate scored three of the next four goals in the game. Rory Connor scored his seventh goal of his freshman season from an assist by Michael Minicus followed by an unassisted marker by Ben Trumble. A BU goal broke the streak but Connor netted his second goal of the game to pull the Raiders within 12-6. The Terriers closed the game with six unanswered goals.

Colucci won the face of battle taking 14 of 26 attempts. Colucci also scooped up a team high nine ground balls.

From the Source:
Head Coach Matt Karweck on the game:
"My team was prepared, they were ready, we had a great game plan, but I hyped it up too much. I think we played too tight and when we got down I didn't do a good enough job of keeping the collective composure. That's on me.

If you really watch this game, it was quite strange. So much of what happened has very little chance of happening again. 6-on-3 extra man opportunity that we didn't handle, ground balls that fell into our lap and we just missed, open guys all over the field that just dropped balls, multiple one-on-ones with their goalie that didn't connect. These are plays we've been consistently making this year but today we didn't. Boston capitalized on our errors but we never returned the favor.

Our best lacrosse is ahead of us and I look forward to making the adjustments needed while sticking to our process."
