BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Head coach Bobby Pennington and the Colgate women's tennis team have had this date circled on the calendar for a year. It proved to be for good reason, as the Raiders pulled off their most thrilling win of the season Sunday at the Lewis Indoor Tennis Center to defeat Lehigh for the first time since 2013. Colgate improved to 2-0 in Patriot League play and 9-6 overall.

The match was fiercely competitive from the very beginning. After Colgate took the No. 1 doubles match and Lehigh claimed victory at No. 2, the coveted doubles point came down to the No. 3 match. The Raiders' tandem of Katerina Atallah and Maddie Sullivan, playing in just their second match together, pulled out the win in a tiebreaker. 

The two teams were evenly matched in singles. Colgate's victories at No. 1, No. 5 and No. 6 sealed the win that the Raiders had waited nine years for.

"This has been nearly a decade in the making for the women, since 2013 to be exact. Lehigh is always a top-four team in our league and we simply refused to lose, scraping out the doubles in a breaker at 3. Three players get game balls who won both singles and doubles: Addie, Kat and Maddie. This checks off one of our goals, with Bucknell up next. We wanted a winning season and high seed, and right now we have both."
