Colgate Can't Hold Off Siena On The Road

Sarah Harding and Kyra Lucey combined for seven of the Raiders’ goals

LOUDONVILLE, N.Y. – Despite owning a five goal lead at halftime, Colgate was unable to fend off a late offensive attack by Siena on Wednesday afternoon at Hickey Field.

The Raiders (1-4) led 10-5 at the intermission, but the Saints (2-1) posted 11 second half goals that included six straight to close out the game to pull off the 16-13 come-from-behind victory.

Sarah Harding scored a career-best four goals for Colgate, all in the first half. She scored three straight that gave the Raiders a 6-5 lead in the second quarter.

Kyra Lucey scored a season-best three goals that matched her career high to mark her second career hat trick.

The Raiders posted eight straight goals after finding themselves down 5-2 with three minutes remaining in the first quarter. Those eight straight goals, the final three of the opening quarter and five in the second frame, gave Colgate a 10-5 lead at the break.

Cara O'Reilly got Colgate on the scoreboard first with her eighth goal of the season with 13:09 remaining in the first quarter. The Raiders also got goals from Margaret Noble, Lucey, and two from Harding in the first 15 minutes. The score was knotted up 5-5 at the end of the quarter.

Catie Lang, Eliza Soutter along with Lucey, and two more goals by Harding accounted for Colgate's five second quarter goals.

Lucey and Devon Maillet posted the Raiders' first two second half goals that gave Colgate a 12-7 lead with 8:14 left in the quarter. Siena then scored nine of the final 10 goals of the game.

Lang added a free position goal in the fourth quarter for Colgate.

The Saints outshot the Raiders 27-21 and gained 18 of the 28 ground balls.

FROM THE SOURCE

Head Coach Kathy Taylor

"Just when you think you have hit another level as a program, it is a painful lesson to realize that you still must learn how to finish games."

"Our team played hard today and well for most of the game, but in the end Siena found another gear we could not respond to."

"Lacrosse is a game of runs and we need to learn to stop teams from having the last run on us. We are working hard and getting better but must play a complete game to win. We have a challenging slate of games ahead, but I believe the work we are putting in now will set us up for success down the road."
