Raiders Take Down League-Leading Terriers

Tiasia McMillan scored 16 points and pulled down eight rebounds in the 64-61 win

Box Score BOSTON, Mass. - In the most exciting win of the season to date, Colgate defeated first-place Boston University at Case Gym, otherwise known as "The Roof." The game saw 20 lead changes and seven ties. Tiasia McMillan led the Raiders with 16 points. Taylor Golembiewski and Sophia Diehl added 12 points apiece. The win kept the seniors undefeated in Case Gym in three games in the past four years. The two teams did not face each other last year after Colgate ended its season early due to injuries. Boston University's high scorer was Sydney Johnson with 21 points.

First quarter action saw strong play from the Raiders as they controlled the pace and led 20-12 at the close of the quarter. Tiasia McMillan led the Raiders with six points and Jenna Paul followed with five of her own. Both Paul and Taylor Langan put shots in from beyond the arc. The quarter saw four artful assists, one from McMillan and three from Taylor Golembiewski who also added a basket of her own. Alexa Naessens was hot from the paint as she added four points from there.

The Terriers made a run in the second quarter and chipped away at the Raiders' lead. Sophia Diehl added her first points of the game with a long three and followed that up with a jumper good for two. The Raiders then fell behind by one and McMillan came right back and added a pull up jumper to take the lead back and go up by one. On the next run down the court, the Raiders were back down by one, but on the next possession Paul put in a floating jumper to enter the locker room up 29-28.

The third quarter produced three lead changes and three ties. Diehl started Colgate off with a jumper and Golembiewski put in two shots from beyond the arc. After a solid assist from Langan to McMillan in the paint, Colgate extended the lead back to five, but BU came right back to tie it up at 39 at the media timeout. After the break, Boston had a five-point run but then Diehl put in a big three for the Raiders and McMillan added a deuce to tie it back up at 44. After the Terriers put three more points on the board, Morgan Frank was fouled and made the trip to the line worth her while as she added two. Frank added a steal to her stat sheet at the end of the quarter but the Raiders were not able to capitalize from it. The quarter ended with the Raiders down 47-46.

The back-and-forth continued in the fourth quarter with multiple lead changes. Golembiewski made her first shot of the quarter and then Frank got hot from beyond the arc as she landed two leading to the midway point and a tie at the timeout. With 4:42 left in the game, both teams were battling for points on every possession. Diehl was fouled on the next play and the Terriers were over the limit so she went to the line and made one of two to put the Colgate lead back to one. Boston came right back with a deuce to go up by one. McMahon was the next to see the stripe and she went one for two to tie the game at 56 with a little over three minutes to go in the game. The Terriers hit the stripe and added two points of their own and McMillan kept coming back and added two more from the paint. With a minute and a half to go the Terriers took a one-point lead to the bench at the next timeout. Once back in action, McMillan kept pounding the paint and brought her game tally to 16 and the lead back to the Raiders. Golembiewski added some insurance with a layup of her own to push the score to 62-59. Forty seconds remained on the clock and the Terriers kept it tight by adding a layup. With 26 seconds remaining, the Raiders clung to a one-point lead. McMahon drew a foul and missed the first but sank the second. Twenty-two ticks left on the clock and the Raiders led by two. One more trip to the stripe, and Diehl added a point to seal the victory 64-61.

Head Coach Ganiyat Adeduntan

"I am very proud of my team and our resiliency to bounce back after a disappointing loss to Army where I felt like we weren't completely ourselves. We had so many people who stepped up today, both offensively and defensively."

"We are successful when we execute our game plan and we have multiple people who contribute. Growth and progress aren't linear but we understand that when we work hard and give our very best we put ourselves in a position to be successful. I have so many emotions right now but the biggest is elation for my players. They earned this win. We will use it to propel us for our next. We enter Wednesday's upcoming game understanding we are taking on another great opponent in Holy Cross."
