Black Knights Dominate the Boards in Win Over the Raiders

Tiasia McMillan led Colgate with 10 points while Taylor Langan made her long awaited return

HAMILTON, N.Y. - After a strong first quarter, the Raiders could not match the Black Knights in the rest of the game and fell 51-38 at Cotterell Court Wednesday evening. Army outscored Colgate the last three quarters and outrebounded them, which put the game out of reach for a comeback. After falling behind by as many as 13 in the second half, the Raiders came within eight in the fourth quarter but could not close the gap. Army's Alisa Fallon scored 24 points and had 11 rebounds. This game saw the return of Taylor Langan to the court after an early season injury and the senior added four points and three rebounds.

The Black Knights took the early lead out of the gate, but Colgate came right back and closed the quarter up 15-11. Tiasia McMillan was first to add points to the board by grabbing an offensive rebound and putting the ball right back into the net. Morgan McMahon put in the first three of the game and two other jump shots to lead the Raiders with seven points this first period. Sophia Diehl and Jenna Paul each put in a shot along with one more from McMillan to push the Raiders out in front by the end of the quarter.

Army outscored Colgate the second quarter and entered the locker room up by two off a three-point basket with five seconds remaining in the stanza. Taylor Golembiewski added four points this quarter and Paul added a jumper late in the quarter. In a much-awaited return to the court, Langan put in her first basket of the night with a driving layup.

After the half, Army again jumped in front with a 7-0 scoring run before Colgate called a timeout. Morgan Frank broke the run and added a pull up jumper. Army increased its lead to 13 midway through the period but Colgate chipped away with a basket from McMillan and a shot from behind the arc from Golembiewski. Paul added a nice play batting the ball away for the second block of the night for the Raiders, but the Black Knights ended the third quarter leading by 10 points.

Langan added her second basket of the night to get the Raiders started off offensively in the fourth quarter. McMilllan added a jumper and two points from the stripe to tally her points for the game to 10, a team high. Golembiewski grabbed a steal and put in the last two points for the Raiders on the night.

FROM THE SOURCE
Head Coach Ganiyat Adeduntan

"We started the game off strong but did not play tough for 40 minutes and allowed Army to pull ahead. In the second half, Army had 14 rebounds and if we can't get the ball back we don't have the opportunity to score. I was excited for the return of Taylor Langan as she has worked hard every day to get back to the court in her senior year at Colgate. She has been extraordinary in her fight to overcome obstacles in her return to the game. Our focus will now turn to our game on Saturday at Boston University."
