Colgate Shuts Down St. Bonaventure 66-52

Raiders Wins Second Straight Game

OLEAN, N.Y. – Colgate women's basketball wins their second consecutive game after bashing St. Bonaventure 66-52 to close out non-conference play. Today's win snaps a nine-game skid against the Bonnie's, with Colgate's last win coming from the 2004-05 season.

The Bonnies might have gotten on the board first, but the game was all Colgate as the Raiders led for 37:55 minutes. This is the second game this season where Colgate held the lead besides the first basket, the other win happening on the road against NJIT back on Dec. 7.

St. Bonaventure opened the scoring, but Tiasia McMillan responded right back for Colgate. Taylor Golembiewski kept the scoring going with a three-point field goal. A foul on the Bonnies brought Alexa Brodie to the line to down a pair of free throws to have the Raiders up 7-4.

The Raiders continued their hot start with their run at 11-0 after Sophia Diehl and Madison Schiller scored back-to-back baskets after a turnover on St. Bonaventure. Brodie then took another trip to the charity stripe, scoring both to bring Colgate's lead to 13-4. Jenna Paul extended the run to 15-0 after scoring a three-pointer. McMahon ended the first period with a field goal to bump Colgate's lead to 18-4.

The Bonnies opened the second period with a three-point field goal to trim their deficit to 11 points. McMahon responded with a field goal for Colgate, but St. Bonaventure answered with their own run to trail 20-9. Continuing the back-and-forth play, St. Bonaventure went on a 7-6 run but still trailed the Raiders by 12 points. McMahon, Diehl, and freshman Abbey Ferguson were responsible for the Raider points in the run.

St. Bonaventure then went on a 3-0 run with a point coming from a foul on Colgate. McMillan then went to the foul line to score a point for the Raiders to lead 27-18. McMillan scored four more points to end the first half of play to bring Colgate's lead to 13 points.

Schiller opened the second with a buzzer-beating layup off an offensive rebound she captured. Colgate continued the offense, going on a 5-0 run after McMillan scored a basket, and Golembiewski scored a three-point play. St. Bonaventure broke up the Raiders' run with a run of their own, scoring seven answered points to trail 38-25.

Brodie then went to the foul line for the third time to finish a three-point play to bring Colgate's lead to 16 points. McMahon then scored two points off Bonnies' fouls to bump Colgate's lead to 43-25. Golembiewski extended the Raider run to 7-0 after grabbing an offensive rebound for Colgate.

St. Bonaventure broke up the Raider run with a three-point field goal to trail 45-28. Fortunately for Colgate, first-year Nicole Parks was able to put two points on the board after a foul on St. Bonaventure to crush any thoughts of a Bonnies' run. Colgate then went on a 10-5 run to end the third period. Golembiewski scored five points in the run for Colgate.

McMillan opened the final 10 minutes by scoring a point at the charity stripe to pick up for the Raiders left off. Paul kept the spark going scoring a layup then Ferguson scored another to bring the Raiders' lead to 62-33.

St. Bonaventure eventually scored a basket in the final stanza from an offensive rebound to break up Colgate's run. The Bonnies kept the pressure, scoring back-to-back field goals to trail 62-39. St. Bonaventure went on to score one point from a foul to trim Colgate's lead to 22 points. Freshman Lara Cook broke up the Bonnies' run after scoring two free throws.
The Bonnies then went on a 7-2 run to trail 66-47 with less than two minutes in the game. Colgate's two points in the run came from Cook. St. Bonaventure scored five more unanswered points to trail 66-52, but fortunately for Colgate, there was not enough time for a Bonnies' comeback.

Head Women's Basketball Coach Ganiyat Adeduntan

"This was a huge team road win. Winning is not easy, so we're celebrating this one. We had a lot of people that stepped up, played well, and executed our game plan. We're excited about the way we are playing right now going into Patriot League play.

"This team is a work in progress. We talk about that every day. We're not satisfied where we are, but our potential is very high.

"We're seeing stretches where we are playing really well, and for us, it starts defensively, so that is what we are going to focus on. If we continue to get better on that side of the floor, we're going to put ourselves in a really good position to be successful in our league."
