Raiders Fall Short in Defensive Game

Kayle Osborne Stopped 24 Shots in Raiders Loss

CAMDEN, Conn. – The Raiders hit the ice after a late night bus drive, facing off against No. 7 Quinnipiac in the battle of the unbeatens Saturday afternoon.

The Raiders moved to 10-1 after falling to the Bobcats in a defensive shootout by a score of 3-0. Kayle Osborne stopped 24 shots, conceding only one shot early on in the first period.

The Raiders pulled the goalie with three minutes left to play in the game, almost capitalizing on the man-advantage before letting up two empty net goals.

Six different Raiders put their bodies on the line, blocking two shots a piece, Colgate blocked 18 shots overall.

"We had a good push at different times throughout the game but we didn't stack enough of those shifts together to make a difference" said Head Coach Greg Fargo.

The Bobcats got on the board first, firing a shot from the blue line off a redirection. Kayle Osborne made her best attempt to stop the rubber, but the puck sneaked just through. Quinnipiac took their lead into the second period by a score of 1-0.

Throughout the second, both programs battled back and forth, ending the period with a score of 1-0. Kayle Osborne stood on her head throughout the entire 20 minutes, making back-to-back saves, keeping the Raiders within contention. The Raiders defensive game was on full display, racking up 14 blocked shots throughout the first two periods.

The third period carried on as both teams battled for control of the game, the game came down to the final five minutes of play. Kaitlyn O'Donohoe looked to slot one past the Bobcats goalkeeper but was denied in the blue paint.

Head Coach Greg Fargo pulled the goalie with under three minutes to play in an effort to bring the game to one a piece. After a strong offensive effort in the Bobcats zone, Quinnipiac wired two empty net goals in, walking away with the 3-0 win.

"This was a very tightly matched game and I would say Quinnipiac was a bit better than we were today to earn the 3 league points. I thought we lacked a little jump tonight and weren't as sharp as we have been but their play certainly had something to do with that."
