HAMILTON – Colgate celebrated Senior Day with a 3-0 sweep over Lafayette and extended the winning streak to six Friday night in a dominant performance at Cotterrell Court.
Colgate posted a solid .319 hitting percentage and held Lafayette to .120.
Abby Shadwick led the charge once again with 14 kills to go with her team-best .565 hitting percentage. Defensively, she collected seven digs and a 1.000 reception percentage on 21 attempts.
Carlie Rzeszotarski reached double-digit kills (11) for the fifth time this season.
Harper Snyder (5) and
Athena Leota (4) anchored Colgate's defensive effort with nine combined block assists. The Raiders finished the match with 14 blocks, contributing to Lafayette's 21 attack errors.
Julia Kurowski recorded 15 assists and is now five away from tying Meghan Fanta's program record of 3,945 career assists. An all-around performance saw Kurowski finish the night with six digs, two service aces, and three kills.
Sydney Jones added 19 assists and
Taylor Cigna chipped in with a team-best 20 digs.
Set 1: Colgate 25, Lafayette 19
The early stages of the opening set were tight until back-to-back kills from Shadwick and Snyder pushed the Raiders in front 14-10. Snyder registered three blocks in the frame, the third of which carried Colgate to its largest lead at 20-15. With six total block assists, Colgate held Lafayette to a .098 hitting clip and cruised to the 25-19 opening win.
Set 2: Colgate 25, Lafayette 14
The Raiders orchestrated a methodical 8-2 run to establish a comfortable lead again in the second set. Kills from Snyder and Kurowski highlighted both ends of the run to push Colgate's margin to 16-10. Four consecutive blocks, including two solo rejections from Rzeszotarski and Snyder, carried Colgate to a dominant 25-14 triumph in the second set.
Set 3: Colgate 25, Lafayette 20
Neither team led by more than two points until the late stages of the third set. With 10 lead changes and defense on display, Colgate raced away from an 18-18 tie with a 4-0 scoring run.
Carlie Rzeszotarski paced the late charge with three kills during the surge and the Raiders rolled to the sweep with a 25-20 victory in the third and final set.
