BALTIMORE – Loyola scored the game-winning goal 1:51 into overtime to come away with a 2-1 triumph over the Colgate women's soccer team in the Patriot League opener for both teams on Saturday at the Greyhounds' Ridley Athletic Complex.
Colgate trailed 1-0 early in the second half when
Adrienne Vaughn netted the equalizer in the 57th minute. Vaughn's first goal of the season came off the left foot after cutting inside and drilling a long-range shot into the top left corner of the netting.
The Raiders continued to pressure offensively and outshot the Greyhounds 4-0 in the second half, but neither team found the go-ahead marker in regulation. The unfortunate finish came less than two minute into overtime, when Ada Clare Tempert redirected a cross to the back of the net to hand Colgate its second consecutive 2-1 overtime defeat.
Loyola jumped on the board first with a goal from Kaleigh Gallagher in the 44th minute. That was the only blemish on Colgate keeper
Grace Poncsak, who didn't face a shot in the second half, until the golden goal in the 92nd minute. Poncsak finished with one save for the Raiders.
Shots were dead even at 10-10, as were corner kicks at 4-4. The Raiders held a 4-3 advantage in shots on goal and a slight 54%-46% edge in possession.

Head Coach Lyndse Hokanson
"It feels like a little déjà vu to be honest. Loyola is a tough team to break down and dangerous on the counter and it felt a bit like our spring match against them round two. We created chances and had some really great moments, but once again got punished for a few mistakes. It was great to see
Adrienne Vaughn get on the score sheet with such a wonderful goal, and she deserved it with her performance today.
"The Patriot League is definitely going to be a dog fight this year, with every team capable of winning any night. Today was a tough pill to swallow, to fight like that and drop one in overtime, but we will rebound and prepare for another challenging game on the road in Boston."
