Colgate Closes Out Ellis Rowland Memorial With Two Wins

Raiders beat Cleveland State 3-0 and Hofstra 3-1

HAMILTON – The Colgate women's volleyball team won its final two games to round up the Ellis Rowland Memorial Tournament.


Colgate 3, Cleveland State 0

The Raiders put on a dominating performance in their first match.

Midway through the first set, Colgate went on a 10-3 run to earn an eigth point victory, 25-17.

Colgate then went on to win the second set 25-15 after ending the set on a 17-8 run.

The Raiders carried that momentum into the third set as they cruised to another 25-15 win.

Libby Overmeyer led Colgate with seven kills. Julia Kurowski had 23 assists and six kills.

On the defensive side, Caroline Altergott  tallied 10 digs and Athena Leota and Harper Snyder each recorded two blocks.


Colgate 3, Hofstra 1

The first set was tight with both teams exchanging points. After Hofstra went ahead 24-22, kills from Snyder, Leota and Abby Shadwick helped the Raiders pull away with a 25-23 win.

The team went back and forth at the beginning of the second set before Colgate went on an 18-7 run for a 25-15 victory.

Neither team was able to build a comfortable lead in the third set as they battled to the end. Hofstra ended up taking a 29-27 win to make it 2-1.

Colgate then ended the third set on a 7-2 run to close out the game with a 25-19 win. 

Harper Snyder had 13 kills to lead the Raiders as she earn all-tournament honors.

Sophie Thompson also tabbed those honors after recording five blocks in the game.

"I loved our composure in tonight's match. We are starting to figure out our identity which is very exciting. Sophie and Harper were named all-tournament because of how consistent they played. It was a total team effort which makes me most proud."

The Raiders host Lehigh at 7:00 p.m. on Friday for their Patriot League opener.
