DURHAM –The Colgate men's soccer team could not overcome an early goal from #20 New Hampshire on Sunday as they fell 1-0.
Just 10 minutes into the game the Wildcats scored from in close after a cross was volleyed into the back of the net.
The Raiders struggled to create good scoring chances as they recorded just two shots.
A strong performance by Colgate's backline and goalkeeper
Nick Gerlach kept UNH from capitalizing on many of its other chances.
Gerlach had five saves on the night including a big diving stop on a free kick in the 42nd minute, and a kick save in the 81st minute after a Wildcats player broke through the Raiders' defense.
Colgate's best chance came in the 88th minute on its first corner kick of the game.
Ryan Krueger connected on a header off the corner, but it was no trouble for the Wildcats' goalkeeper.
FROM THE SOURCE
Head Coach Erik Ronning
"Despite the loss, this team continues to grow and improve every day. We knew playing on the road against a quality opponent like UNH would force us to play at the highest level. Although we started on the back foot, we made the necessary adjustments, grew into the game and presented ourselves with opportunities to equalize.
We are all very disappointed with the result but this experience has only made us a better team.
Our work ethic and toughness were unbelievable and I am confident if we continue to display that resolve, we will continue to grow and improve. We are nowhere close to our ceiling and made another step forward today ."
