Dakosty Announces Coaching Staff Updates

Four New Hires Have Raiders Full Steam Ahead

HAMILTON – Full steam ahead.

Newly introduced Fred '50 and Marilyn Dunlap Head Football Coach Stan Dakosty was thrilled to announce in his introductory press conference that he has a full staff ready to go, and it comes just in time to kick off preseason in preparation for the 2021 opener at Boston College on Sept. 4.

"We're excited to welcome a great group of coaches and support staff to our program," Dakosty said.

"Starting with our coaching positions, both Ray Hunter and Joe Horn joined us earlier this summer. Ray will be working with our defensive line and brings a wealth of experience and knowledge from both playing and working with that position group over the course of his career. Ray's energy and passion for the d-line position was felt as soon as he stepped foot on campus.

"Coach Horn is similar in that he has both played and coached his positions at a very high level as well. Joe's knowledge and his experience with the wide receiver position can easily be seen the minute we began our pre-season camp. Both coaches are great teachers and have made an immediate impact in their position groups and in the program as a whole. We are very lucky to have them, and look forward to watching them continue to become part of our Colgate family through their first season here at the 'gate."

"We were also fortunate to add two new support staff members to our team in our new director of football operations, Mallikah Little and our quality control/video coordinator, Ian Fried. Mallikah comes in with great experience in all facets of operations, working as a DFO at the FCS level for a number of years. With her arriving so close to August, Mallikah needed to come in and hit the ground running, and she has done that and more. The overall operations of our program are in great hands with Mallikah leading the way. On top of that, we were fortunate to hire Ian shortly after his graduation from Temple. As an undergrad, Ian worked to build a great foundation in football operations, recruiting and player personnel and player development. His contributions through the first few weeks of preseason camp have helped make our overall operations run at a very high level. Both Mallikah and Ian are great additions to our program and their impacts have been felt immediately as well."

Colgate covers four separate areas with its four newest staff members – offense, defense, operations, and quality control.

Ray Hunter – Defensive Line Coach
Ray Hunter spent three seasons at Ohio Dominican, where he served as the defensive line coach and was named the team's defensive coordinator for the 2020-21 campaign. Ohio Dominican posted a 4-2 spring record, which featured its first 3-0 start in six seasons. All 11 starters on defense were selected to the All-Conference team including five First Team selections.

Hunter coached 13 All-Conference performers along the defensive line, including six First Team selections in his three seasons at ODU. In 2019, sophomore Jaylin Garner broke the program's all-time single season sack record (9.0) and ranked 15th nationally in sacks per game (0.9). As a unit, the Panthers were among the top three in the Great Midwest in sacks and tackles for loss per game.

Originally from Saint Louis, Missouri, Hunter coached the defensive line while assisting with the special teams at Missouri Valley in 2017. The kickoff return team finished No. 15 in the nation with 22.4 yards per return and the punt team ranked second nationally in net punt yardage (42.8). Two of his linemen earned First Team All-Conference accolades.

Previously, Hunter helped coach defensive linemen, linebackers and special teams as a graduate assistant at his alma mater, Central Missouri, from 2015-17.
