Colgate Drops Doubleheader in Boston

Raiders Knock Three Homers in Narrow Game 2 Defeat

BOSTON – Colgate dropped both ends of Saturday's doubleheader at Boston University, falling to the Terriers 6-1 and 6-5 in Patriot League action.

The losses move Colgate's record to 3-7 overall and 1-3 in Patriot League play. Boston University improved to 15-1 and remained unbeaten in League action at 4-0.

Game 1: Boston University 6, Colgate 1
Boston U did most of its damage in the home half of the first. A tough opening frame for the Raiders saw three walks and two hit-by-pitches hand the Terriers an early 4-0 cushion in the opening contest.

Taylor Ludwick picked up where she left off last week and got the Raiders on the board in the top of the second. The sophomore worked a leadoff walk and later scored on a defensive miscue to trim the deficit to 4-1.

Colgate's starting pitcher Bailey Misken settled in after the shaky first, allowing two runs the rest of the way. She retired the Terriers in order in the third inning before giving up a two-out RBI triple in the fourth. Misken's counterpart Ali DuBois followed suit, however, yielding one hit over seven innings.

The Raiders were unable to get a runner into scoring position until Mia Guevarra snapped DuBois' streak of eight straight batters retired with a double to center in the sixth. She would be Colgate's final baserunner before Boston U added an insurance run in the bottom of the sixth en route to the 6-1 final.

Game 2: Boston U 6, Colgate 5
Colgate's bats were alive early in the nightcap, with three solo shots propelling a 3-0 Raider lead. Ludwick and Adrienne Nardone went back-to-back to start things off in the second. Steph Jacoby added another blast in the top of the third and Colgate was rolling early in Game 2.

Boston U did not make the margin last and cashed in with three runs in the home half of the third. A sacrifice fly followed by a defensive error scored two runs and tied the game up at 3s after three innings.

Bella Crow fired scoreless fourth and fifth frames before Boston U shot back with another three-spot in the bottom of the sixth, capped by a two-run single from Caitlyn Coker to give the Terriers their first lead of Game 2, 6-3.

Colgate put forth a valiant comeback effort in the top of the seventh. Guevarra scored Virginia Irby with an RBI groundout and Jacoby followed with an RBI single to cut the deficit to one. Jacoby represented the tying run, but a lineout ended the game with the Terriers claiming the 6-5 triumph.

Crow struck out five but was tagged with the loss after allowing five runs (four earned) over 5 1/3 innings.

FROM THE SOURCE
Head Coach Marissa Lamison-Myers

On the games:
"We need to continue to be aggressive and find more hitters' counts. The team showed great fight and energy throughout the day, so I am hopeful we bring that with us again on Sunday. The ability to find the barrel consistently was a struggle for us. Hopefully we can take what we learned from today and apply it to Sunday's doubleheader. We still have two more chances, which we are looking forward to."

NOTES
Steph Jacoby led the Raiders with two hits and two RBIs on the day.
• Boston University extended its home winning streak to 25 games.
Taylor Ludwick belted her team-leading third home run of the season.
Adrienne Nardone's homer was the first of her collegiate career.
