HAMILTON – Freshman
Aidan Davock scored his second goal of the season in the 91st minute and Colgate earned a 1-0 overtime victory over Army on Saturday at Beyer-Small '76 Field.
Davock netted the only goal Colgate needed behind fellow freshman
Andrew Cooke's five-save shutout.
Another freshman
Simon Hall set up the game-winning goal near midfield, lofting a high through ball over the Black Knights' back line. Davock, on the receiving end, settled the pass near the top of the box and fired a low strike past the diving Army keeper for the game-winner 1:01 into overtime.
90 minutes weren't enough to decide a winner as neither team found the back of the net in regulation.
John Muckstadt forced an early save in the 13th minute and Cooke registered his first stop on the other end midway through the opening frame. The Raiders could not cash in on a pair of late corner kicks and went into the intermission scoreless at 0-0.
Cooke was hard at work in the second half, making four saves in all to keep the match scoreless.
Playing in his first game of the season, Colgate's 2019 leading scorer
Drew Fischer set up the Raiders' best chance in the final minute of regulation. He heaved a long throw-in to the center of the box, where a header was redirected just wide of the left post and the game went to overtime in a 0-0 stalemate.
It didn't take long for the Raiders to cash in during the extra session. Davock's walk-off winner came just over a minute into overtime and sent the Raiders home with their first victory of the season.
