BOSTON – Despite an early penalty stroke goal by
Taylor Casamassa, the Colgate field hockey program was unable to debunk Boston University's undefeated season. Although Colgate outshot the Terriers, it fell in a 2-1 decision in Patriot League play.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Just as the Raiders gained momentum, they were awarded a penalty corner opportunity and looked to build on the chance. After an initial stop,
Taylor Casamassa was awarded a penalty stroke on which she sent to the left side of the cage for a 1-0 lead, an advantage that would stand through the first 15:00.
Early in the second quarter, Boston U. capitalized on its first penalty corner opportunity to tie the game at 1-1. Shortly thereafter, the Terriers passed in for a low goal to take advantage of an out-of-position defense to gain a 2-1 lead.
After Boston University's 2-1 lead stood through the half, Colgate looked to even it up when returning fresh for the third quarter. Building offensive momentum,
Blair Boyles took it up the field before centering the ball to
Meghan Minturn, but after a swivel it went just wide.
It all came down to the final 15:00 as Colgate looked to even the league matchup. Although the Raiders gained a penalty corner opportunity of their own, the shot sailed just wide to keep it a one-goal game. Try as they might through the final minutes, the Raiders were unable to add another and the horn sounded on a 2-1 decision.
