Early Deficit Hurts Women's Soccer

Raiders Fall to Terriers 2-0 in Divisional Match

BOSTON – Boston University scored a pair of early goals and held on to defeat the Colgate women's soccer team 2-0 on Saturday at Nickerson Field.

Colgate has made two trips to Maryland, including a Monday tilt at Loyola, and now Saturday's match in Boston marks the third straight road game for the Raiders to start the season.

The Raiders are finally scheduled to make their home debut this weekend against Lafayette, the first of back-to-back games in Hamilton.

The Raiders on Saturday faced an uphill battle after Boston U opened the scoring three minutes into the game. The Terriers doubled their lead in the 16th minute and Colgate couldn't recover.

Colgate generated more offensive pressure in the second half and went even with Boston U in shots 5-5 over the final 45 minutes. Hannah Pinkus earned one of the better opportunities, but her shot was saved in the 60th minute.

Sage DiGiulio's corner kick in the 61st minute set up a good look for Ally Giovino, who had a shot blocked by a Terrier defender. Two more blocked shots in the 89th minute after Sydney Maxson struck a shot on goal preserved the 2-0 result for Boston University.

FROM THE SOURCE
Head Coach Lyndse Hokanson

On the game:
"Today was a game of two teams looking for a positive response after disappointing losses earlier in the week. It took us a little bit to find the pace of the game, and by the time we put our foot down for the task, unfortunately we were playing from behind.

"I'm really proud of the response from the team in the second half, I thought we showed immense grit and heart to force the issue. I'm also really pleased at the minutes we got from some of our younger players who stepped in and provided a massive spark for our team today. This week has been a great gut check for us that we will learn from. This group will respond positively as we look forward to Lafayette."

NOTES
Hannah Pinkus and Sydney Maxson had Colgate's two shots on goal.
• After being outshot 5-1 in the first half, the Raiders went even (5-5) in the second half.
Grace Poncsak made three saves in her first Colgate start between the pipes.
