ANNAPOLIS, Md. – Aidan Davock netted his first collegiate goal and
Nick Gerlach recorded five saves in his first career start, but Navy scored two unanswered goals to defeat the Raiders 2-1 on Sunday.
The early chances went to Navy, but Gerlach stopped the first four shots he faced before making the Midshipmen pay.
Justin Weiss struck a shot from the center of the box and after an original save, Davock sent home the rebound to push Colgate in front 1-0 in the 34th minute.
Navy answered with the equalizer with just over a minute left in the half. Baba Kallie found a hole past Gerlach, who registered five saves in the opening 45 minutes, and the two teams were knotted 1-1 at the break.
Both teams came out looking for the go-ahead marker and Navy capitalized in the 79th minute after a deflected shot found the back of the net. Moments before Navy's marker, Davock nearly scored his second goal of the contest but his shot whistled off the crossbar.
Edward Bass forced a second-half save and Colgate had one last gasp in the 89th minute.
Kian Alberto earned a corner kick and
John Gerard connected on a header that sailed just high. The Midshipmen were able to clear and hold on for the 2-1 triumph.
