Men's Soccer Drops Decision to Boston U

Raiders Fall to Terriers 3-0 in Home Opener

HAMILTON – Boston University scored three goals in the second half to take a 3-0 win over the Colgate men's soccer team on Saturday's home opener at Beyer-Small '76 Field.

Colgate (0-2, 0-1 PL North) generated a handful of opportunities in the first half. Justin Weiss took a centering pass and beamed a one-timer on the doorstep, forcing a diving save for Boston U's keeper Michael Stone.

In the 16th minute, a long through ball set up Aidan Davock on a breakaway, but his shot sailed just high over the crossbar. The Raiders at the break held a 5-3 advantage in shots, including a 2-0 edge in shots on goal, but neither team found the back of the net in a scoreless first 45 minutes.

Boston University (1-0, 1-0 PL North) forced pressure on the Raider back line and stole the momentum with a quick goal in the second half. Ronaldo Marshall scored for the Terriers in the 51st minute, and then Boston U added another five minutes later to open a 2-0 advantage.

The Raiders responded with more pressure in the offensive end and generated chances, but could not capitalize. Adam Fam drove a shot on goal and John Muckstadt had a high shot bounce off the crossbar twice in the 74th minute before the Terriers were able to clear.

Despite a pair of late shots on goal from Davock and Nick Steed, Boston U found the net once more with a third marker in the 77th minute to claim a 3-0 victory.

FROM THE SOURCE
Head Coach Erik Ronning

On the game:
"This contest was truly a tale of two halves. It is never fun losing, but there are so many positives to draw. I am particularly proud how we started the game and played in the first half. We created some great chances, had good control of the game, and quite frankly were unfortunate not to be ahead.

"Boston U came out on the front foot in the second half and made us pay for our mistakes. We did not respond well after conceding and were chasing the game from there. Our guys never gave up and will be better as a result of this experience."

NOTES
• Shots on goal finished even for both teams at 5-5.
John Muckstadt and Antonio Ducrot led Colgate with two shots apiece.
Wilson FitzGerald made two saves in his first collegiate start in goal.
