Box Score HAMILTON – Colgate picked up right where it left off last weekend, closing out Loyola 3-1 in a battle for first place Friday night at Cotterell Court. With the win, the Raiders extend their winning streak to four games and hold the top spot in the Patriot League standings.
Libby Overmyer (13) and
Alli Lowe (11) paced the Raiders with double-digit kills, while defensively,
Cami Carfino and
Abby Shadwick led Colgate in digs with 15 and 12, respectively.
Set 1: Colgate 25, Loyola 14
Loyola scored the first three points but Colgate responded with three of the next four to tie the opening set at 4-4 on a kill by
Athena Leota assisted by
Julia Kurowski. The Raiders didn't lead until charging ahead with an 8-1 scoring run to build a 15-10 advantage. Colgate never relinquished its lead, extending the margin on back-to-back kills from
Alli Lowe and
Sophie Thompson. A pair of service aces from
Abby Shadwick and
Ashley Chow built Colgate's largest lead of the set to 21-13. The Raiders scored four of the next five, including three straight attack errors by the Greyhounds, to seal the 25-14 triumph.
Set 2: Colgate 25, Loyola 21
Another back-and-forth second set saw the Raiders create separation with a 15-10 lead after a kill by
Julia Kurowski. The Greyhounds responded with seven of the next nine points to tie the set at 17-17 on an attack error by Lowe. Tied again at 19s and 20s, Colgate pulled ahead for good on a kill by Overmyer and Lowe ended it with a slam to give Colgate a 25-21 narrow victory.
Set 3: Colgate 13, Loyola 25
Loyola found its footing in the third set and jumped out to a 4-0 advantage. A kill by Lowe helped Colgate trim the margin to 12-10, but the Greyhounds responded with six straight points and the Raiders couldn't recover. A kill by Leota would be Colgate's final point of the set, as Loyola capped it off with a kill by Abby Hamilton to take the third set 25-13.
Set 4: Colgate 25, Loyola 16
Neither team gained a significant lead, as a back-and-forth start saw the fourth set tied at 9-9. A service ace by Carfino and kill by Overmyer highlighted a quick 3-0 spurt that handed the Raiders a 14-11 edge during the middle stages. Loyola pulled back within two (17-15), but back-to-back service errors by the Greyhounds ignited an 8-1 closing run to cap off Colgate's 25-16 victory.
