Colgate Battles Cornell to 4-3 Defeat

Three Different Raiders Score

HAMILTON —  A hard fought battle saw the Colgate field hockey team fall 4-3 to Cornell on Sunday afternoon at Tyler's Field

Just over 12 minutes into the game, the Big Red got on the board when Caroline Ramsey scored off a penalty corner.

Shortly after the Raiders responded when Kali Williams fed a pass to Julia Jamesley who put it in the back of the net.

Cornell scored two more in the beginning of the second half with another goal by Ramsey followed by one from Isabella Palde.

In the third period, the Raiders responded with two goals of their own. Taylor Casamasa scored off a penalty corner two minutes into the quarter. With eight minutes remaining, Rachel Alderfer found Mari Kniezewski who slotted it in to make it 3-3.

In the final period of play, Isabella Palde had a breakaway shot that she put away to give the Big Red a 4-3 lead.

Despite the loss, Anna Unger at 14 saves in goal for Colgate.

Head Coach April Cornell

"I'm really proud of our team effort today. We started making some great connections on attack. I'm really happy to see goals from three different players. We had a lot of players stepping up in big ways from our back field all the way to the striker line. If we continue to play that way and believe in our talents the wins will come.
