Box Score WEST POINT, N.Y. -- For just the second time in the 2021 season the Colgate volleyball team went five sets. Unfortunately, the results in both five-set matches were the same.
Colgate (13-8, 10-2 PL) fell to Army (15-6, 9-3 PL) 20-25, 25-23, 10-25, 25-18, 15-10 to snap a season-long eight-match win streak.
The loss is the first for the Raiders in over a month when they fell 3-0 at Navy on Sept. 24.
As expected in a five-set match, both teams were evenly matched. Colgate's attack percentage was .205, while Army hit .207. The Black Knights had 57 kills to the Raiders' 54.
Libby Overmyer led the Raiders with 21 kills and a .292 attack percentage.
Julia Kurowski had 39 assists and a team-best 21 digs.
Colgate also dropped a five-set match to Princeton in the opening match of the Ellis Rowland Memorial Tournament back on Sept. 10.
Set 1: Colgate 25, Army 20
The Raiders won their sixth straight set dating back to the second set at Lehigh last Saturday. Colgate tallied a .536 attack percentage and never trailed in the set. Army cut the Raiders' lead to 22-20, but following a time out called by head coach Ryan Baker, Colgate posted the last three points to claim the set.
Set 2: Army 25, Army 23
The evenly-matched set was tied eight times, including 21-21, before Army closed it out by recording four of the final six points to claim the 25-23 victory. Colgate hit just a .087 clip, while the Black Knights had a pair of service aces and a .275 attack percentage.
Set 3: Colgate 25, Army 10
Colgate closed the set on a 15-2 run to claim the 25-10 win. The Raiders recorded 11 kills on the offensive side of the net and collected five blocks and held Army to a negative .300 attack percentage. The Black Knights had 13 attack errors in the set.
Set 4: Army 25, Colgate 18
Army jumped out to a 2-0 edge and never relinquished the lead in the 25-18 win that forced a fifth and deciding set. The Black Knights hit .467 with 17 kills, while Colgate was limited to a .152 attack percentage.
Set 5: Army 15, Colgate 10
The Black Knights took the momentum from the fourth-set win and claimed a 15-10 victory in the fifth set. Army lept out to a 5-0 lead and Colgate was able to cut the deficit to one at 6-5, but couldn't get any closer. Both squads recorded seven kills in the set, but Army managed a .294 attack percentage.
