Four Goals from Casamassa Leads Raiders to Victory

Graduate Student Ties Team Record in 4-3 Win Over Towson

TOWSON, Md.—Taylor Casamassa scored four goals to lead the Colgate field hockey team to a 4-3 win over Towson on Sunday afternoon.

Her four goals tie the program record for most in a game, set by Lynne Wertz in 1979.

The Tigers got on the board first when Mackenzie Tilman scored off a pass from Paige Reese with just over five minutes remaining in the first.

Towson's lead did not last very long, as just 24 seconds later Casamassa scored her first of the game off a penalty corner.

In the second, Georgia Beachley scored for the Tigers as they retook the lead with just under nine minutes to go.

With 40 seconds remaining in the half, Casamassa scored another goal off a corner to knot it up at 2-2.

The graduate student quickly got back to work in the third as the Raiders were awarded a penalty stroke 23 seconds into the quarter that she converted.

Just over a minute later Reese found the back of the net for Towson to tie the game up again at 3-3.

Three minutes into the fourth quarter Casamassa put in the game-winner for Colgate off another penalty corner.

Kali Williams assisted on three of the goals while Carter Leahy had two assists and Bronwen Rees-Wiedemann had one.

Anna Unger made seven saves in goal for the Raiders.

Head Coach April Cornell

"This was a great team win today. We have been playing great the past couple of weeks and unfortunately just have been able to grab a win. Today's win was a testament to our team's fortitude to keep believing in our ability and execute. Our striker line worked extremely hard on the press and provided strong pressure for our midfield to create some really dangerous counter attack from and draw corners. Taylor Casamassa had a great game, she  executed on attack penalty corners extremely well. Amanda Allen was our rock in the center back position, she was steady and confident under Towson hard pressure."
