No. 5 Raiders Sweep No. 10 Quinnipiac

Serdachny’s Two-Goal Game Helps Colgate Win Another Top-10 Matchup

HAMILTON – The No. 5 Colgate women's hockey team completed the sweep against No. 10 Quinnipiac University with a 4-1 win against the Bobcats Sunday evening at the Class of 1965 Arena.

Sophomore Danielle Serdachny recorded her first multi-point game of the season with two goals and junior Rosy Demers notched her second of the season to give the Bobcats their second loss in as many days.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The game started out going back-and-forth with both teams getting almost equal shots on goal, but a Quinnipiac penalty gave the Raiders an early power play opportunity that set the tone for the rest of the game. With the man advantage, junior Rosy Demers got assists from sophomore Sydney Bard and junior Delani MacKay to score at the 10:38 mark to give Colgate its first lead of the contest. Despite having the lead, the Raiders were outshot 12-9 by the Bobcats in the first period.

The Raiders came back for the second period and dominated offensively as the Bobcats almost never had control of the puck. With the help of another Quinnipiac penalty, Colgate capitalized on the power play for the second time on the night as Danielle Serdachny scored off a pass from first-year Kalty Kaltounkova to extend the Raiders lead to 2-0 not even three minutes into the second period.

Continuing the stellar offensive performance for the Raiders was sophomore Darcie Lappan, who now has a two-game scoring streak as she notched her second of the weekend in the final minutes of the period to make the score 3-0. After being outshot in the first, Colgate dominated shots on goal in the second period as the team finished outshooting the Bobcats by a 15-3 margin.

Quinnipiac started to pressure back to start the third period and the Raiders defense stood strong until the Bobcats tallied their own goal on the power play at the 7:29 mark to cut the make it a two-goal game. With approximately three minutes remaining in the game, the Bobcats pulled their goalie, which paved the way for Serdachny to score her second of the day on the empty net, to give the Raiders the 4-1 win.

Overall, the good result was due to some quality team play from everyone in our room. I liked our game tonight and I like how we did it together."
