Raiders Fall at In-State Rival

Colgate Falls in 12-8 Decision at Binghamton

VESTAL, N.Y. – Despite a late push by the Raiders, the Colgate women's lacrosse program dropped a 12-8 decision at Binghamton on Wednesday afternoon.

Looking ahead, the Raiders return home to open Patriot League action on Saturday against Boston University.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Binghamton opened the scoring, but freshman Cara O'Reilly quickly answered with her second of the season to tie the game at 1-1. Shortly thereafter, fellow freshman Eliza Soutter received a feed from junior Danielle Van Calcar from behind the net and scored for Colgate's first lead of the day at 2-1.

The Bearcats went on to garner a four-goal run to build a 5-2 advantage. Soutter was able to capitalize with the man advantage to snap the streak with her second of the day, and within a minute, Van Calcar spun around the net to make it a one-goal game at 5-4 late in the opening half.

As Colgate looked to even the field before halftime, Binghamton scored on a pair of free position opportunities after the Raiders' back-to-back tallied to increase its lead to 7-4. After Binghamton went on to make it 8-4, senior Lindsay West scored her first of the season on a breakaway for an 8-5 game in the final minutes of the half.

In goal senior Samantha Croston made a big save at the horn to keep the Raiders within three, but Colgate returned for the second half facing an 8-5 deficit.

Binghamton opening the second stanza by scoring off a free position opportunity for a 9-5 lead. Minutes later, Annelise Kotz battled through defenders to create a lane and scored her fourth of the year.

With a high shot, junior Olivia Duarte was able to record Colgate's first free position goal of the evening to return it to a two-goal game at 9-7. Croston held Binghamton off the board for over 15:00 of play, but the Bearcats sealed a top shelf tally for a 10-7 advantage just past the halfway point of the second.

Behind another dodging play by the Raiders, O'Reilly scored with a high shot to yet again make it a two-goal game late in regulation. Just as it seemed the Raiders would build offensive momentum, they were called for a goal circle violation recording their ninth goal.

After Binghamton added another on a free-position to make it a 12-8 game in the final minutes of regulation, Soutter was robbed on the doorstep with two minutes on the clock. As the Bearcats denied the Raiders through their final attempts at the net, the game stood at a 12-8 final in nonconference action.
