EASTON, Pa. – The Colgate field hockey program returned to Patriot League play on Saturday afternoon, but were unable to overcome Lafayette's quick start. The Raiders fell in a 4-0 final on the road, despite a pair of late attempts in the final quarter.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Early after the whistle, Lafayette was able to gain a 1-0 lead just 2:45 into the game. By scoring with just three seconds remaining in the first stanza, the Leopards carried a 2-0 advantage into the second quarter. Although the Raiders attempted to shift play down the field, Lafayette was able to add a pair of goals by capitalizing on continued penalty corner opportunities to increase its lead to 4-0 heading into halftime.
A more consistent quarter of play, the Raiders held Lafayette to no goals in the third but still faced the four-goal deficit as they entered the final 15:00 of regulation. Junior forward
Taylor Casamassa was able to tally a pair of shots in the final quarter of action as the Raiders looked to come back with a penalty corner opportunity, but Colgate was unable to overcome Lafayette's quick start for the 4-0 final.
