HOW IT HAPPENED
Penalty corners affected first quarter play, as a long shot from the top of the circle put the Great Danes up 1-0 just 5:30 into the game. Midway through the second quarter, a tip down low after another penalty corner increased Albany's lead with a tic-tac-toe play. Colgate saw its first quality scoring chance as junior Taylor Casamassa took a shot through traffic off the corner, but it was stopped out front by the keeper to remain a two-score game.

As the clock ticked down on the half Albany soared down the field after another Colgate chance at the cage, but gained a penalty corner of their own and quickly scored from the far side for a 3-0 advantage. After capping off the first half scoring, the Raiders enter the third quarter facing a three-goal deficit.

Colgate crossed over to see some offensive chances in the third quarter, but were still unable to crack onto the scoreboard as they entered the final 15:00 facing the 3-0 deficit. Although the Raiders attempted to inch back, Albany solidified the score with a long shot from the top of the circle late in the quarter for the 4-0 final.

HEAD COACH APRIL CORNELL'S TAKE
"Defensive penalty corners are something we're going to work on – firstly, not giving up as many. I think we were more aggressive on defensive penalty corners, but our timing needs to be tackling outside the circle, the space that we're tackling in, and not allowing them to gain that space inside the circle is really important. We need to eliminate the shooting options on defensive penalty corners and getting immediate pressure on the ball.

"Our attack inside the 25 did a really good job of working off one another to create pockets and give-and-go opportunities that we really utilize to gain more attacking penalty corners and chances. The biggest thing is our midfield play and connecting more passes on attack for more breakouts.

"This game was great preparation for us. We designed the schedule to make sure we're getting some tough competition prior to league play so we can feel really confident going into league play. Although we gave up too many scoring opportunities, the team is really confident in their style of play. Going into this weekend if we take care of those things defensively, we'll have a great opportunity to win the game."
