Raiders Run Falls Short at No. 10 Loyola

Atkinson Earns Second Straight Hat Trick Against Nationally Ranked Opponent

BALTIMORE – Despite the Raiders' five-goal second half, No. 10 Loyola's early run was too much for the Colgate women's lacrosse program to come back from in an 18-9 final in Patriot League play on Saturday afternoon.

It was a quiet start on both ends of the field, with just one goal being scored through the first 6:00 of action but the next 10:00 was when Loyola's offense took over to gain a 6-0 lead. Midway through the half, Tara Atkinson scored on a free position chance to get Colgate on the board and rev up the Raiders.

Colgate began a 3-1 run behind back-to-back free position goals by Atkinson, before Lindsay West answered a Greyhound tally by weaving around the defenders for a wide angle shot to the top of the net. Although the Raiders slowed the pace of the Loyola offense late in the first half, Colgate entered halftime facing a five-goal deficit.

A deceiving score, there was just a 13-10 differential in shots on goal as the Raiders returned for the second half trailing 9-4. Loyola set the tone early though, with a goal less than a minute in that ignited a three-goal run. Tara Atkinson halted the Greyhounds by topping off her second straight hat trick as the Raiders challenged the nationally ranked opponent.

Midway through the second half, Kyra Weiner produced a low feed to the goal from the top of the arc on a free position chance, but Loyola continued steamed ahead to a 12-6 score. A strong area for the Raiders, West capitalized on another free position opportunity with a low bounce past the goalie to top off Colgate's fifth goal from the eight-meter arc on the day.

Although Noelle Patterson made a play for another Colgate goal with under a minute remaining in regulation, No. 10 Loyola powered ahead for the 18-9 final in Patriot League play.

STATISTICAL STANDOUTS
• Senior Tara Atkinson recorded her second straight hat trick, now holding 20 goals on the season. The three-score performance marks her second consecutive multi-goal game and fifth overall on the year.
• Behind her sixth multi-goal game of the season, junior Lindsay West improves to 19 goals on the year including seven in the last four games.
• Adding to her team-leading offense this season, junior Noelle Patterson marked her 31st goal and has now scored in all 15 games. Patterson's two-goal performance marks her 10th multi-goal game of the year, while she also topped the team with five shots on goal.
• Now holding six goals in her eight games played, Kyra Weiner scored in the second half and improves to 10 total points on the year.
• On her way to a two-point day, freshman CC Telesco tallied a goal and an assist. Telesco extends to a four-game scoring streak since posting the first goal in her career against Lehigh (April 6).

COACH BEVILLE'S TAKE
"While the final score was not in our favor, I'm proud of our efforts as we faced a very, very good Loyola team today. I have to give a shout out to Olivia Duarte who came off the bench and helped us keep the draw battle even. Playing a tough opponent like we did today is going to set us up for success heading into our last regular season game and playoffs next weekend."
