Colgate Bats Stymied at Boston U.

Raiders Fall to Terriers 8-0 and 7-0 in Doubleheader Saturday

BOSTON – Colgate's bats were held quiet by strong Boston University pitching as the Terriers claimed both ends of Saturday's doubleheader 8-0 and 7-0 in Patriot League action at the BU Softball Field.

Colgate fell to 17-20 overall and 3-5 in league action after the losses. Boston University, meanwhile, improved to 22-17 on the season and 7-1 in league play with the two wins.

Boston University 8, Colgate 0 (Five Innings)

Colgate struck the first threat in the top of the first. Morgan Farrah worked a one-out walk and Virginia Irby cracked a single to right center to put runners on the corners.

Boston University's Ali Dubois escaped the jam with an inning-ending strikeout to come out unscathed. The Terriers answered in the home half of the first, with an RBI single from Alexa Ponce around a pair of fielding errors giving the home team an early 2-0 lead.

The Raiders threatened again in the top of the third. Cayman Coughlin fouled off four pitches in a nine-pitch at-bat before taking ball four and quickly stole second to reach scoring position. Dubois kept her there, however, with three straight outs to work out of the jam.

The score remained 2-0 until Boston University tacked on six runs in the bottom of the fourth. Jen Horita and Alex Heinen both doubled home a run before Ponce scored two more with a single up the middle to stretch the Terriers' lead to 8-0.

Colgate was unable to scratch a run across in the fifth, as Dubois completed her one-hitter with a 1-2-3 inning to seal the 8-0 win for Boston University.

Boston University 7, Colgate 0

Meghan Romero reached base on an error in the opening frame of Game 2 but Boston University struck first in the home half on an RBI single to left field by Emily Morrow.

Morrow kept the Terriers hot in the second with an RBI triple capping a three-run frame. The first four Boston University batters in the inning reached base safely after an RBI single from Nicole Amadio gave the Terriers an early 4-0 lead after two innings.

Pounce poked an RBI single to center before a double steal worked to perfection, as Horita attempted to steal second and Kali Magane raced home to expand the Terrier lead to 6-0.

Boston University added a run in the bottom of the sixth and the Colgate bats were held at bay en route to the 7-0 final.

Emily Grant tossed a complete-game two-hitter with five strikeouts to pick up the win in the circle for Boston University.
