BOSTON – Lauren La Terra roped a game-tying RBI triple in the sixth inning before Boston University walked off with a single in the bottom of the seventh to defeat the Raiders 2-1 and complete the weekend sweep Sunday afternoon at the BU Softball Field.
Back-to-back hits for Boston University in the bottom of the first pushed the game's first run across. Emily Morrow sent a double into right field and she came around to score on a single down the right field line by Alex Heinen.
Bella Crow buckled down from there to keep it a one-run game in the sixth, where Colgate staged its comeback to tie the game.
Christiana Cottrell led off the sixth with a double to left field. La Terra entered as a pinch-hitter and came through with the big hit – an RBI triple to right field to tie the game at 1-1.
The Raiders were poised for more with just one away, but Ali Dubois stranded La Terra at third with a strikeout and a groundout keeping the game level.
The game remained knotted at 1-1 until Boston University capped off the sweep in the bottom of the seventh. Alexa Ponce led off with a single up the middle and pinch-runner Kali Magane sped to second on a passed ball.
With the winning run in scoring position, Marina Sylvestri brought Magane home on a bunt single to second base to complete the weekend sweep, 2-1.
