MADEIRA BEACH, Fla. – Morgan Farrah and
Jordan Miller cranked a pair of homers to fuel a late Raider rally, but the Colgate softball team came up just short in a 5-3 final to Drexel on Sunday morning.
Colgate concludes the weekend with a 5-4 overall record after going 4-1 in Madeira Beach. Drexel improved to 4-6 with the win.
Drexel used a four-run third inning to open a comfortable lead. Kristi DiMeo hit a two-run home run to open the scoring before back-to-back RBI singles from Hannah Walker and Jenelle Ladrido gave the Dragons an early 4-0 edge.
Farrah doubled in the top of the fourth and scored three batters later on an RBI single by
Nicole Rounsavill to plate the Raiders' first run of the morning.
Jessica Hay relieved
Bella Crow in the third inning and kept the Dragon bats quiet long enough for Colgate to cut the deficit to one run in the top of the sixth.
Farrah belted her first career home run to right center and Miller followed suit two batters later with a shot to left field to make it 4-3.
Drexel scored an insurance run in the bottom of the sixth, however, and held off the Raiders in the seventh to close out the 5-3 final.
