HAMDEN, Conn. - Colgate stepped onto the ice at Frank Perrotti, Jr. Arena looking to complete a regular season sweep of Quinnipiac.
The Raiders saw the first power play opportunity only 50 seconds into the opening period. Despite a few chances, the visitors weren't able to draw first blood. The Colgate penalty kill unit came through as it often does in the latter half of the first when Sydney Bard was sent to the box. Though Quinnipiac claimed a 10-4 shot advantage, neither side could obtain an early lead.
The Bobcats broke through just over five minutes into the second period when Grace Markey redirected a slap shot past Liz Auby.
Sammy Smigliani erased the Bobcat lead with her third goal of the season. Finding Quinnipiac net minder Abbie Ives out of position after quick passes from Danielle Serdachny and Malia Schneider, Smigliani converted to get the Raiders on the board.
Both sides took the ice with some urgency to begin the third. Liz Auby made key saves throughout the final period, including her shut down of a breakaway opportunity.
The senior ultimately surrendered a goal to Quinnipiac's Lexie Adzija in the final minutes that allowed the home team to claim its decisive 2-1 lead.
