Colgate Uses Fast Start to Crush Yale

Liz Auby Claims Second Straight Shutout as Colgate Defeats Yale 4-0

HAMILTON - The Raiders came into Saturday afternoon looking to build on Friday night's conquering of Brown against a tough Yale squad. What Colgate found was an undefeated weekend at Class of 1965 Arena to start a five game home stretch.

Coralie Larose gave Colgate the early advantage just over four minutes into the contest with a shorthanded goal. The Raiders would never look back.

Exactly three minutes later, Noemi Neubauerova tacked on another to give Colgate a 2-0 lead heading into the first intermission.

Yale entered the second period with a sense of desperation and went on to outshoot Colgate 9-4, but couldn't find the back of the net against Liz Auby. In a stalemate period, Larose came inches away from netting her third goal of the weekend when she hit the post on a breakaway.

Colgate's theme of scoring in bunches presented itself once again in the final period. Eleri MacKay scored with thirteen minutes remaining off a feed from her twin sister, Delani MacKay. Just shy of two minutes later, Malia Schneider tallied her fifth of the year. The rout was on in Class of 1965 Arena.

Senior goalie Liz Auby recorded her second consecutive shutout with 23 saves.

Bottom Line

  • Colgate 4, Yale 0

Head Coach Greg Fargo on Liz Auby's recent performances

  • "Liz has been a leader for us all year. She's really performing well and the rest of the team is following her lead. Our team is committed to playing good team defense as a whole. Tonight in particular, we did a good job of putting pressure on the puck and making sure we were on the right side of the puck all night."

On his team's fast start

  • "We were strong from start to finish. It starts in the locker room with our group and being ready to play at puck drop. I liked our focus and execution on the ice. We were well connected and it showed this weekend."

On two convincing wins this weekend

  • "It's great to win and especially good to win at home. Our main interest is in continuing to improve with every week that goes by and I feel like our team is making progress and adding layers to our game. We're an unfinished product at this time but it's nice to grab these four points as we continue ahead."
