Colgate Battles Holy Cross to 0-0 Stalemate

Chiavaro Records Six Saves in First Shutout of the Season

WORCESTER, Mass. – Fueled by six saves from Kelly Chiavaro, the Colgate women's soccer team battled Holy Cross to a scoreless draw on Wednesday night in Patriot League action.

The two teams were engaged in a defensive battle through tough field conditions with periods of heavy rain and wind swooping through game play. Chiavaro was stellar in goal, registering her first clean sheet of the season in the draw.

Chiavaro posted at least one save in each period, highlighted by three in the second half to help send the match to overtime. Two of those saves came just over a minute apart midway through the frame, and the senior keeper recorded a strong diving snag in the 58th minute on a shot from Samantha Peters.

Colgate (1-6-3, 0-1-2 PL) shifted the momentum and held Holy Cross (2-2-6, 0-0-3 PL) without a shot on frame for the rest of regulation. Julia Lindsey generated a strong scoring chance in the 76th minute after Hannah Pinkus battled a defender in the center of the 18-yard box. Pinkus stretched a pass across to the left wing, where Lindsey rifled a one-timer into the diving hands of Holy Cross keeper Sophia Lettieri.

Ellis Miller nearly netted the go-ahead marker in the 89th minute on a high shot toward the upper left corner of the net, but it was saved on a diving attempt and the two teams went into extra sessions still locked at 0-0.

Neither net minder gave an inch in the overtime frames. Lindsey earned Colgate's best chance with less than a minute left in the second overtime. Ruby Diodati struck a set piece into the 18-yard box and Lindsey connected with a redirected header, but it sailed just wide and the final horn went off with zeros on the scoreboard.

BOTTOM LINE
Colgate 0, Holy Cross 0 (2OT)
