Late Goal Leads Lehigh Past Men’s Soccer

Miller Scores First Career Goal in 2-1 Defeat

Colgate (2-4-4, 1-1-1 PL) got off to a fast start and tallied the opening three shots on goal. John Muckstadt and Edward Bass forced a pair of saves inside the first six minutes before a long-range blast from Drew Fischer was stopped by Mountain Hawks keeper Will Smith in the 21st minute.

Lehigh (7-2, 3-0) did not strike a shot on target until the 28th minute, but the visitors claimed a 1-0 lead late in the half. Fresh off National Player of the Week honors, Josh Luchini won a 1-on-1 battle in the center of the six-yard box and one-timed a long through ball from Trevor Koski for the go-ahead marker in the 33rd minute.

Searching for the equalizer, Colgate went back on the attack and netted the equalizer with just two seconds left in the opening frame. Sebastian El Abdellaoui initiated the pressure after taking a failed Lehigh clear and twirling a long shot on goal. Miller was in position for the rebound and cranked a left-footed shot past Smith for the tying goal just before halftime.

With opportunities on both ends in a back-and-forth second-half affair, the Mountain Hawks capitalized on a turnover to take the lead down the stretch. Alex Greene redirected a rebound outside of the 18-yard box, where Stevo Bednarsky carried his momentum into a long-range blast that found the netting in the 71st minute.

Harris made a stellar diving save on a breakaway in the 85th minute to keep the Raiders within striking distance. Kentaro Morrison created Colgate's best chance late in the match, but his shot from the center of the box was saved by Smith in the 87th minute.

Kian Alberto spun a long set piece toward the left post in the final seconds of regulation and the ball settled momentarily before the Mountain Hawks cleared and hung on for the 2-1 final.
