COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Air Force used a quick start and strong finish to defeat the No. 13 Colgate men's soccer team 3-0 on Sunday afternoon at Cadet Soccer Stadium.Â
Â
Air Force capitalized on its first offensive possession to get on the board in the first minute. Tucker Bone drew a defender towards him on the left side before centering a quick pass to Luis Martinez trailing behind. From just inside the 18-yard box, Martinez unleashed a high shot over the arms of
Jacob Harris to give the Falcons a 1-0 lead 50 seconds into the match.
Â
Kentaro Morrison and
Kian Alberto came away with back-to-back corner kicks in the 22nd minute, but the bold Falcon back line played tight defense to clear the threats. That was a common theme through the majority of the first half, with the Falcons grabbing a 2-0 lead at the break after Bone scored for the home team from 20 yards out in the 25th minute.
Â
After being held without a shot in the first 45 minutes, Colgate nearly doubled Air Force in shots (13-7) in the second half.
Â
The Raiders were unable to find many clear looks on the attack as the Air Force defense constantly forced Colgate to play outside.
Christian Clarke sailed a header just high of the net in the 61st minute and
Oliver Harris had two straight shots blocked before
Uyi Omorogbe struck a shot just wide in the 70th minute.
Â
The Raiders continued to install their offensive pressure late in the match, but Air Force nabbed a late insurance goal in the 89th minute to secure the 3-0 victory.

FROM THE SOURCE:
• Colgate head coach
Erik Ronning: We are very disappointed with today's result. We began the game poorly and had a tough time finding a rhythm. Credit to our guys for doing much better in the second half and never stopped fighting. We knew this was going to be a tough challenge given the emotional and physical investment we made Friday, and knowing the quality of our opponent. Today's score line does not cloud all of the positives we can take away from this weekend. There are certainly many areas we must improve on, and we will move forward positively. I am excited to get back on the practice field and start preparing for Binghamton.Â
